Dust grain shattering in protoplanetary discs: collisional fragmentation or rotational disruption?

چکیده
In protoplanetary discs, the coagulation of dust grains into large aggregates still remains poorly understood. Grain porosity appears to be a promising solution allow survive and form planetesimals. Furthermore, shattering has generally been considered come only from collisional fragmentation; however, new process was recently introduced, rotational disruption. We wrote one-dimensional code that models growth evolution as they drift study their final outcome when two processes are included. When simulating in disc model reproduces observations, we find disruption is not negligible compared fragmentation radial drift. Disruption becomes dominant turbulence parameter $\alpha \lesssim 5\xtenpow{-4}$, if slow enough. show importance history strongly depends on tensile strength.

Dust-Dust Collisional Charging and Lightning in Protoplanetary Discs
We study the role of dust-dust collisional charging in protoplanetary discs. We show that dust-dust collisional charging becomes an important process in determining the charge state of dust and gas, if there is dust enhancement and/or dust is fluffy, so that dust surface area per disc volume is locally increased. We solve the charge equilibrium equations for various disc environments and dust c...
متن کاملCollisional Dust Avalanches in Debris Discs
We quantitatively investigate how collisional avalanches may develop in debris discs, as the result of the initial break-up of a planetesimal or comet-like object, triggering a collisional chain reaction due to outward escaping small dust grains. We use a specifically developed numerical code that follows both the spatial distribution of the dust grains and the evolution of their size-frequency...
متن کاملCollisional and Rotational Disruption of Asteroids
Asteroids are leftover pieces from the era of planet formation that help us understand conditions in the early Solar System. Unlike larger planetary bodies that were subject to global thermal modification during and subsequent to their formation, these small bodies have kept at least some unmodified primordial material from the solar nebula. However, the structural properties of asteroids have ...
متن کاملPlanetesimal formation via fragmentation in self-gravitating protoplanetary discs
An unsolved issue in the standard core accretion model for gaseous planet formation is how kilometre-sized planetesimals form from, initially, micron-sized dust grains. Solid growth beyond metre sizes can be difficult both because the sticking efficiency becomes very small, and because these particles should rapidly migrate into the central star. We consider here how metre sized particles evolv...
متن کاملCollision velocity of dust grains in self-gravitating protoplanetary discs
We have conducted the first comprehensive numerical investigation of the relative velocity distribution of dust particles in self-gravitating protoplanetary discs with a view to assessing the viability of planetesimal formation via direct collapse in such environments. The viability depends crucially on the large sizes that are preferentially collected in pressure maxima produced by transient s...
